A Response to my peer post, Tiffany. Support your answer with relevant resources. According to my peer, Tiffany, she stated the following to the questions. What is the governments role in healthcare? My peer stated that the government plays a key role in healthcare. They can make insurance and healthcare too expensive for certain households. The government pays for healthcare coverage for certain programs. They also regulate standards and guidelines that healthcare providers must follow. These things are patient care, medication safety, infection control, and medical equipment standards. The government pays for over 100 million Americans health coverage between Medicaid, medicare, and CHIPS. It is also the governments job to provide sustainable development goals. This can be done by supporting the health and wellbeing of its citizens (Tang et al., 2024). How does the government impact healthcare organizations? My peer stated that the federal government directly finances health services for elderly Americans through the Medicare program and provides grants to the states through the Medicaid program to assist them in financing health services for poor Americans. Insurance companies employ various tactics to control costs, which can contribute to higher patient costs while limiting access to care. For example, insurers often set low reimbursement rates for providers, require prior authorization for specific treatments and exclude some services from coverage (WHO, 2022). How does health insurance impact healthcare delivery? My peer stated that they are key players in what healthcare thats available. They control the price of the services offered. If individuals cant afford the services, they are less likely to access care. Insurance companies employ various tactics to control costs, which can contribute to higher patient costs while limiting access to care. For example, insurers often set low reimbursement rates for providers, require prior authorization for specific treatments and exclude some services from coverage. (UNC Pembroke, 2024) How can we reduce the number of uninsured people while maximizing quality and access and minimizing costs? My peer stated that, the main way to reduce the number of uninsured people is to use government funding and grants to provide universal healthcare. There are many countries who currently offer this to its citizens. However, America is not one of these countries. If American are left uncovered their illnesses will progress and become life threatening. Universal healthcare can save countless lives. One of the most important challenges to achieving universal healthcare globally is the availability and sustainability of financing. This can be done through annual health care funding (Universal Health Coverage, 2021).
